APPLICATION NOTE #174 USING IRMA 2/E78 PLUS WITH XYWRITE Rev. 01 IRMA 2/E78 Plus package, a product of Digital Communications Associates, is a communications product that allows you to emulate an IBM 3270 mainframe with your PC. This application note describes the special setups needed to run E78 Plus with XyWrite. INSTALLATION First be sure that you have enough extra memory to run the emulation program. Remember, XyWrite requires 256K of memory (384K with the Spelling Checker). You must add to that the amount of memory required by the emulation program and any other programs that you have loaded. If you have sufficient memory, install the E78 Plus program according to the directions in the IRMA 2 Hardware and Software Installation Guide. If you decide to modify the AUTOEXEC.BAT file to load E78 Plus automatically, enter the E78 command before the command to load XyWrite. DEVICE DRIVER Depending on how you install it, the E78 Plus setup program may insert the KYBDDRV.SYS device driver in CONFIG.SYS. If it's there, be sure that it includes the G switch as one of the options. DEVICE=KYBDDRV.SYS -G The G switch ensures that the DOS buffer is where XyWrite expects it to be. If the device driver KYBDDRV.SYS is not installed in CONFIG.SYS, use the /K= switch with the E78 startup command to establish the DOS buffer location. Type the following command either in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file or at the DOS prompt. E78 /K=-G (You can use the /K= switch to establish several options. Refer to Chapter 4 in the E78 Plus User's Guide for more information.) HOT KEYS The standard hot keys for entering and exiting the E78 Plus emulation program are Shift-Shift.
