APPLICATION NOTE #117 USING XYWRITE ON A ZENITH 181 AND 183 Rev. 01 RELATED FILES: Z181.KBD, Z181SUP.KBD The Zenith 181 and Zenith 183 are portable lap-top computers. They use an LCD display with supertwist technology and backlighting, and a keyboard that is substantially different from the standard IBM keyboard. This application note explains the adjustments you need to make so you can use XyWrite on the Zenith 181 or 183. SCREEN DISPLAY To get the best screen display results with XyWrite: 1. Set the brightness on the Zenith computer between medium and maximum. 2. Set the contrast to medium. 3. Call your printer file to the screen and add the following settings to your printer file, before the PT (Print Type) tables. MD NM=2 MD BO=7 MD UL=96 MD RV=32 MD BU=45 MD BR=97 MD SU=64 DD=38 HN=2 BW=1 4. Store and load the printer file. KEYBOARD The Zenith keyboard has just four cursor keys and does not have a separate numeric keypad. It has an additional shifting key, labeled Fn, which is used in conjunction with other keys to create the following functions: Home Fn-Ctrl-Left Arrow End Fn-Ctrl-Right Arrow PgUp Fn-Ctrl-Up Arrow PgDn Fn-Ctrl-Down Arrow Prt Sc Fn-Ctrl-ScrollLock Ins Fn-Ctrl-Del XYQUEST has developed two special keyboard files for use with the Zenith 181 and Zenith 183: Z181.KBD and Z181SUP.KBD. Both keyboard files set NumLock as a toggle with its own separate remappable table, so NumLock does not require use of the Fn key. Z181SUP.KBD implements most of the super keyboard functions described in Appendix D of the XyWrite Reference Guide. The exception is the Express Windows function, which is usually mapped to the CapsLock position of the numeric keypad. If these files are not on your XyWrite Word Processor diskette, you can get them by calling Technical Support. Copy the keyboard file you want to use onto your working disk and then modify STARTUP.INT to automatically load your keyboard file.
